Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple Pune

Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati temple is located in Pune and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

The temple is simple yet beautiful and devotees can even catch a glimpse of the Ganesha idol on the street and watch aarti and pujas. The Ganesh statue is 7.5 feet tall and 4 feet wide.

The idol of Ganapati has a solid gold ear decorated with nearly 8 kilograms of gold. The Ganesh idol is decorated with gold and precious jewels worth Rs 1 crore.

Thousands of pilgrims visit this temple every year during the 10-day Ganapati festival. The daily pujas, initiations and aarti performed by Lord Ganesh are worth visiting. The lighting of the temple during Ganesh festival is wonderful.

The temple is currently managed by Halwai Ganapathi Trust. Being one of the richest institutions in Maharashtra, the Trust organizes various cultural events like concerts, bhajans, Atharvasheersh recitations, etc.

The trust also runs a nursing home – Pitashree in Kondhwa, provides relief services to the poor and provides medical clinics in tribal belts in Pune, Maharashtra.

The story dates back to more than 125 years when Shri Dagdusheth Halwai and his wife Lakshmibai lived in Pune. As fate would have it, they lost their only son to the plague epidemic.

It was then that they met a compassionate sage who asked them to build a Ganesha Temple in Pune not only for the welfare of his own family but also the world.

Years later, when Lokmanya Tilak started the practice of organising annual Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Maharashtra, Dagdusheth Ganpati gained fame as the most adored deity in Pune.
