Vaitheeswaran Temple, also known as the Angarakan Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in the town of Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamil Nadu, India.
Shiva is the main deity of the temple who is worshipped as Vaitheeswaran or the “God of healing” and it is believed that prayers to Vaitheeswaran can cure diseases. It is one of the nine Navagraha temples associated with the planet Mars (Angaraka).
It is believed that Shiva appeared as a doctor and Ambika as a midwife to Dhanvantri who came to earth to cure her ailments.
The Vaitheeswaran Koil is guarded by Bhairava on the East, Veerabhadran on the west, Karpage Vinayagar on the South and Mother Kali on the north. The sanctum faces west.
Jatayu Bird Raja, Lord Muruga and Surya have worshiped at this place. The name of Vaideeswaran temple pond is called Chidhamirtham.

History of Vaitheeswaran Temple
Once upon a time Angarakan was suffering from Venkushta and prayed to Lord Shiva. Eason accepted Angarakan’s request and told him to go to Vaideeswaran temple and bathe in Siddhamirtha Theertha and worship Vaidyanathan. Angarakan did the same and he was cured of Venkushta.
Thus, it is the belief of the devotees that bathing in the Chidhamirtha pond in this temple will cure all diseases. Vaideeswaran temple festival will be celebrated as Kanda Shashti festival. And every Tuesday in the evening Angarakan gets up in the Attukita Vahanam.
