Story of Shani Dev Became the Magistrate of the World

According to the story, Surya gave him the suzerainty of the various worlds according to the ability of his sons, but in defiance of the father’s command, Shanidev also captured other worlds.

On the request of Surya, Lord Shankar sent his people to fight with Shani Dev but Shani Dev defeated them all.

Now Lord Shankar was forced to fight with Shani Dev. In this fierce battle, Shanidev shot his eye on Lord Shankar, then Mahadev opened his third eye and destroyed Shani and all his worlds. Not only this, but Lord Bholenath also nudged Shani Dev with the infallible hit of his trident.

After this, Lord Shankar hung him upside down from the Peepal tree for 19 years to teach Shanidev a lesson. During these years, Shanidev was absorbed in worshiping Lord Bholenath.

But Surya, suffering from betrayal, asked Mahadev for Shani Dev’s life. Lord Bholenath then pleased and not only freed Shanidev but also appointed him as the magistrate of the world by making him his disciple.
