Dehradun, the gorgeous capital city at the foothills of the Himalayas, is one of the top tourist destinations of Uttarakhand.

Dehradun gets its name from the eldest son of the 7th Sikh Guru Har Rai, Baba Ram Rai, who set up his ‘Dera’ (camp) in ‘Dun’ (valley) in 1676. Eventually, it became Dehradun from Dera Dun.

Places To Visit in Dehradun

Robber’s Cave

Guchhu Pani in Dehradun, India: This is a natural river cave formation in the Himalayas, about 8 kilometers from the center of Dehradun City. The cave is about 600 meters long and divided into two main parts. 

The highest waterfall in the cave is about 10 meters tall. The cave is named after a legend that it was used by robbers in the late 1800s to hide from the British Raj.

Malsi Deer Park

Malsi Deer Park is located in Dehradun, India. It is a small zoological park, but it is home to a variety of animals, including deer, sambhar, barking deer, and nilgai. The park is also home to a variety of birds, including peacocks, pheasants, and parakeets.

Forest Research Institute

Lachhiwala Nature Park

Lachhiwala Nature Park, also known as Lachhiwala, is a popular picnic spot and tourist destination located near Doiwala, Dehradun, India.

It’s situated approximately 22 kilometers from the city center, nestled amidst verdant Sal forests and offering a refreshing escape into nature.

Timings: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Car Park – Rs 40
  • Entry inside Dharohar Museum – Rs 20 per head.

Rajaji National Park Wildlife Safari

Tiger Falls

The journey to Tiger Falls itself is an adventure. You can either drive or trek to reach the falls. The 25-kilometer drive from Chakrata to Lakhamandal is followed by a 1-kilometer trek through a dense forest with oak and rhododendron trees.

Alternatively, there’s a 5-kilometer trek route directly from Chakrata, offering stunning scenic views.
