History of Eachanari Vinayagar Temple
The Broken Axle Legend:
The temple’s story revolves around a larger-than-life idol of Lord Ganesha, measuring around 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It was originally intended for the Perur Pateeswarar Temple in Perur, a nearby town. However, during the transportation of the idol from Madurai on a bullock cart, the axle of the cart mysteriously broke down at the exact location where the Eachanari Vinayagar Temple now stands.
Divine Intervention:
Devotees attempted to move the idol further, but their efforts proved futile. This, along with the unexpected breakage of the axle, was interpreted as a divine sign from Lord Ganesha himself, indicating his desire to reside at that specific location. This led to the construction of the Eachanari Vinayagar Temple around the 16th century, where the idol remains enshrined to this day.
Historical Significance:
While the exact date of construction cannot be definitively confirmed, historical estimates place it around the 16th century, making the temple a significant landmark in the region, standing tall for over 400 years. The temple’s association with Lord Ganesha and its distinctive Dravidian architecture attract devotees from various parts of India.

Architecture of Eachanari Vinayagar Temple
Constructed in the 15th century, the Eachanari Vinayagar Temple serves as a splendid illustration of Dravidian architecture. With its serene ambiance and detailed carvings, the temple has become a favored pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Ganesha.
The temple features an imposing gopuram that serves as the primary entrance to the temple complex. Constructed in multiple tiers, the gopuram is embellished with detailed carvings depicting deities, mythical creatures, and intricate geometric patterns.
Within the temple complex, numerous mandapams, pillared halls designated for diverse activities like pujas (worship rituals) and festivals, are present.
These mandapams are frequently adorned with elaborate carvings portraying mythological scenes and intricate floral designs.
The innermost sanctum of the temple, known as the vimana, enshrines the idol of Lord Ganesha. Exhibiting a typical pyramidal structure, the vimana is adorned with sculptures and paintings.
In front of the gopuram, a tall flag post called dwajasthamba stands, with a religious flag ceremoniously raised on it.
