About Kainchi Dham

Kainchi Dham is one of the most talked about spiritual centers today. From famous cricketers to celebrities, they all line up at Kainchi Dham to seek the blessings of Neem Karoli Baba. Located in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district, this spiritual center attracts devotees from all over the world.

This ashram is associated with Neem Karoli Baba. For those who are unaware, he is a famous spiritual guru and a great devotee of Lord Hanuman. He was born as Lakshman Narayan Sharma around 1900 in the village of Akbarpur in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh. He married when he was 11, but soon left home in search of spiritual knowledge.

Kainchi Dham is a beautiful scenic mountain ashram located in the Kumaon Hills in Uttarakand. The first temple was inaugurated in June 1964. It is approximately 38 km from Nainital. Many hundreds of people visit the temples here every day, in season.

  • The name of the ashram comes from its location, where the ashram is built on two hills in the shape of a scissors (kainchi in Hindi), which cross and crisscross each other. Neem Karoli Baba received Samadhi in 1973 and has since been considered an incarnation of Lord Hanuman.
  • Kainchi Dham became famous when former Apple CEO Steve Jobs visited the temple in 1973. Jobs was going through a stressful period in his career and came to India in search of a place where he could find answers to his questions and attain the ultimate truths of life – Nirvana and Prajna.
  • Jobs meditated in a monastery and came back with an epiphany. Later, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also visited Kainchi Dham to seek peace and enlightenment.
  • Every year on June 15, the birthday of Neem Karoli Baba, the ashram holds a fair, which is well attended by locals and tourists alike.
  • The ashram was originally built in memory of Sombari Maharaj and Sadhu Premi Baba, who performed rituals here.

By Train

The nearest major railway station is Kathgodam, which is about 38 km from here. From Kathgodam, one can take a taxi or a bus to Kainchi Dham.

By Road

 Kainchi Dham is well-linked by road, and you can drive or take a bus from Nainital or other nearby cities.
