Harsiddhi Temple is a revered Shaktipeeth Hindu temple located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, dedicated to Goddess Harsiddhi, an incarnation of Goddess Durga.
It is believed that the lips of Mother Sati fell on the Bhairav mountain on the banks of the Kshipra river in Ujjain.
It is said about the Harsiddhi temple that the elbow of Sati Mata fell where it is located. That is why this temple has a place among the Shaktipeeths.

History of Harsiddhi Temple
The history of Harsiddhi Mata Temple in Ujjain is super old and filled with myths of Hindu royalty. According to some legends, the temple is believed to be among 51 special places connected to a powerful goddess.
According to religious beliefs, two demons named Chand and Mund once planned to capture Kailash. When both of them reached there, Goddess Parvati and Lord Shankar were busy in gambling. Chand and Mund tried to enter inside, but Shiva’s Nandigana stopped them at the door.
Both the demons injured Nandigana with weapons. When Lord Shiva came to know about this, he remembered Chandi Devi.
With Shiva’s permission, the goddess killed both the demons. Pleased with this, Shiva said that you have killed the wicked. Therefore, you will be famous by the name Harsiddhi. Since then Harsiddhi is seated in Mahakal forest.
Harsiddhi Temple is also believed to be related to King Vikramaditya. The area where the temple is located is considered to be the Tapabhoomi of Vikramaditya. Just behind the temple, in a corner, there are some heads with vermilion on them.
It is said that these are the heads of King Vikramaditya. According to folklore, Vikramaditya sacrificed his head every 12th year to please the goddess. He did this 11 times, but the head returned every time. When he sacrificed the head for the 12th time, it did not return. This was considered the end of his rule.

Architecture of Harsiddhi Temple
There are four entrance gates in the boundary wall of Harsiddhi Mata temple. There is Saptasagar pond at the east gate of the temple and at a short distance in the south-east corner there is a stepwell, which has a pillar.
There are two more pillars in the holy abode of Mata. These two huge lamp-pillars are considered to be the symbol of man and woman. In this, the pillar on the right is bigger, while the one on the left is smaller.
However, some people also consider it to be the symbol of Shiva-Shakti. There are 1100 lamps on both the pillars, which require about 60 kg of oil to light them. After lighting the lamps on both the pillars, these pillars look very attractive. In the evening, people reach here from far away to see this lamp garland.

By Air
The nearest airport to the temple is Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore which is located at about 55 km.
From the airport, you can hire a taxi or use a bus service to Ujjain.
By Train
The nearest railway station is Ujjain Junction which is about 2-3 km from the temple.
Several trains connect the city to almost all major parts of the country.
By Road
Ujjain is well-connected by road to major cities in Madhya Pradesh and nearby states.
