How to Reach

By Air:

The nearest airport is in Coimbatore, which has flights from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calicut, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Sharjah. Air India, Kingfisher, Indigo and Spicejet operate flights there.

Palani is approximately 100 km from Coimbatore. Transport from Coimbatore to Palani includes taxi, bus, and train.

By Rail:

There is a rail line through Palani station, stretching Madurai to Coimbatore via Pollachi. Now Tiruchendur to Palani via Madurai, Chennai central – Palani Express, operating on this line. The Murugan Temple is about 2km from the railway station and can be reached by autorickshaw or bus. Palani is also connected by Amritha express 16343/16344 running daily from Trivandrum to Madurai Via Ernakulam Town.

By Road:

The state transport corporation and a lot of private bus operators ply bus from Palani to major cities in Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Tuticorin, etc) and also to neighboring Kerala(Palakkadu, Kochin).

FEATURES

Rope Way System:

The rope-car takes only 2.45 minutes to cover the distance of 320 meters. The rope car is faster than a winch. The Rope car system was introduced for the very first time in Tamil Nadu at this temple in Palani for the benefits of the devotees.

A mono Cable Fixed Grip Reversible Jig-Back Ropeway system is being operated with four cabins on each side with 350 passengers per Hour capacity with travel time of 2.45 minutes. The ropeway is operated from 7.00 A.M to 9.00 P.M with an hour break between 1.30 P.M to 2.30 P.M. artificial waterfall is created along the rope car alignment.

Italian and Korean grass giving the rock a greenish look were planted on the hill embarkment on the rope car station. 30 meters High artificial waterfall is being created along the rope car alignment.

Winch:

The capacity of winch is 36 seats and the length of the way is 290 meters from the base station to hill temple and travel time is only 8 minutes. The cost of winch is cheap and It operates from 5.20 A.M to 9 P.M. On festival days Winch will be operated from 3.20 A.M to 9.00 P.M.

Three Man Riding Haulage Winches are operated. The 36 seaters 1st Winch was installed in the year 1966, the 32 Seater 2nd Winch was installed in the year 1981 and the 36 seaters 3rd Winch was installed in the year 1988.

Along the winch tracks Greenish garden is maintained, waterfalls and Lily ponds are maintained at the lower winch station.

Steps and Elephant Path:

Besides climbing up the hill by Ropeway and Winch, there are other two ways viz Steps and Elephant Path. HR & CE department has sanctioned to construct 100 Nilal Mandapams in the elephant path by way of the donor.

To manage the overcrowding of devotees in-front of Pathavinayakar Temple at footsteps during the festivals such as Thaipoosam and Panguni Uthiram, an alternative diversion arrangement has been made through Kumbapisheka Arangam to Elephant Path.

Similarly, a permanent stainless steel Queue line with toilet facility has been made in the northern side of the hill (Chinnakumarar Mandapam)
